This is about a mother and her children from the Mayan community of San Juan, in the middle of the jungle in Coba (
Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico). I met her when I was introduced to that community by the Maya Kuxkinal Foundation, led by Pilar Jufresa. That night they were gathered in the central area of the community, which was set up with several columns of tall logs that supported a thatched roof and a dirt floor, since it was in the middle of the Yucatecan jungle. Part of the community had gathered there to pack the tarantulas that they would sell in Mexico City as pets, and that night they would come to pick them up and pay them. The scene was impressive. This woman was with her husband. The children were asleep because it was late at night.
